John Haney

January 27th, 1943 – October 5th, 2016

John Haney, age 73 of Vienna, IL, passed away at 4:15 am on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, KY. He was born on January 27, 1943 in Peoria, IL, the son of John and Audrey (David) Haney. John married Linda Aberle on February 2, 1980 in Mackinaw, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his four sons: Chris (and Susan) Haney of Waterloo, IL, Mark Haney of Tampa, FL, Sean 9and Traci) haney of DuQuoin, IL, and Kevin (and Alecia) Haney of Marine City, MI, seven grandchildren; Joshua Haney, Gabrielle Weis, Blaik Haney, Natascha Haney, Grace Haney, Dawson Haney, and Shaylen Haney, one sister Sara (and Rod) Boynton of Morton, IL and nieces and nephew Gwen Nicholas, Phillips Nicholas, Suzanne McCoy, Shelly Johnson and Carrie Cadieux.

John was preceded in death by his daughter Angie Aberle, son Bryon Aberle and sister Jane Bowcott.

He was a Vietnam War Veteran, serving in the US Army from 1964 to 1965.

John retired as a Millwright. He also was a talented woodworker who built a hand-hewn log home that was featured in many national magazines. Additionally, he enjoyed building quality furniture, flying ultra-light airplanes and spending time with family-particularlry when everyone joined him in singing his favorite country music.

Graveside services will be held in the Vermont Cemetery in Vermont, IL at 12:45 pm on Saturday, october 8, 2016 with Pastor Grant Armstrong officiating. Full military rites will be provided by the Vermont American Legion. Visitation will take place from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at Shawgo Memorial one in Astoria, IL. Memorials may be made to the Vermont American Legion.
