Ernest B. Bucy

Ernest Boyd Bucy, age 79 of Vermont, Illinois, passed away at 6:30 am on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born on July 8, 1941 in Havana, Illinois, the son of Boyd J. and Minnie S. (Knuppel) Bucy.

Ernest was a general contractor and carpenter for 40 years. He also owned and operated the C and E Grocery in Vermont with his sister Carol, for 10 years.

He taught his nephews his trade. He enjoyed woodworking, nature walks in the woods, and planting trees.

Ernest was a member of the Vermont United Methodist Church and a former member of the Vermont Village Board.

He is survived by his two sisters, Carol Pace and Bertha (and Eldon) Bucy, all of Vermont, Illinois, seven nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and nephews

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 pm Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at the Vermont Cemetery. Reverend Bob Greene will officiate. Friends may call at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria on Tuesday from 1:00-2:00 pm. Due to COVID-19, social distancing guidelines will be required and no more than 10 people at a time will be allowed in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to plant memorial trees in Ernest's memory.

I just learned from Mark about Ernie passing . It was a very sad news! I always enjoyed the time spent with Ernie . He was my patient for many years and a friend for as long as I knew him.
