Anna Danner

March 7th, 1914 – December 30th, 2014

Anna Danner, age 100, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 7:05 am on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at her daughters home in Bloomington, IL. She was born on March 7, 1914 in Sangamon County, IL, the daughter of John B. and Barbara (Fahs) Werner. Anna married Harold Devere Danner on April 29, 1939 in Astoria. Harold preceded her in death on October 1, 1969.

Survivors include her three daughters, Dorothy Veitengruber of Bloomington, IL, Shirley Danner of Bloomington, IL and Beverly Stuckwisch of Industry, IL, six grandchildren, Al (and Dee) Veitengruber of Stanford, IL, Linda (and Roger) Engle of Cortland, IL, Richard (and Terri Brookshier) Veitengruber of Bloomington, IL, Kirk (and Lisa) Veitengruber of Bloomington, IL, Angela (and Terry Foulk) Stuckwisch of Macomb, IL and Andrew (and Kaylee) Stuckwisch of Clinton, IL, seven great-grandchildren, Katrina (and Joel) St. Pierre of Highland, IL, Elise (and Kyle) Frazier of Bloomington, IL, Tim (and Colleen) Veitengruber of Decatur, IL, Allie Veitengruber of Glendale, AZ, Jennifer Veitengruber of Bloomington, IL, Max Veitengruber of Bloomington, IL and Jake Veitengruber of Bloomington, IL, five great-great-grandchildren, Cole and Liam Frazier, Isaac and Alayna St. Pierre, and Anna Veitengruber, her sister, Esther Bowser of Elkton, MD and several nieces and nephews.

Anna is preceded in death by three sisters, Amelia Stambaugh, Rosalee Wickert, and infant Dorothy Werner, one brother, Maurice Werner, son-in-law, Alvin Veitengruber, and an infant granddaughter.

She moved to Fulton County when she was 7 years old and later graduated from Astoria High School in 1932. She worked as a domestic for more than 30 families. She also was a seed sorter at Mummert Seed Company in Astoria and worked at the Astoria Locker Plant. Anna did quilting for many people, quilting over 100 quilts for other people. She quilted quilts for all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was well known for her pie baking, especially coconut cream.

Anna was a member of the Woodland Church of the Brethren. She was President of the Sunshine Club and President of the South Fulton Sr. Citizens Group in Astoria. She was also a member of the Woodland Cemetery Board.

Services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the Woodland Church of the Brethren in Astoria. Pastor Kevin Kessler and Pastor Gary Yoder will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Astoria. Memorials may be made to the Woodland Church of the Brethren or Camp Emmanuel.

Anna Danner was one of the sweetest, kindest ladies I have ever met. When I joined the Danner Family she welcomed me with open arms. She was indeed a lady, but one with great strength as she gardened, canned, hung out wash, far more than most do in their later years.
