Ernestine A. Bulmer Conley

November 9th, 1939 – July 14th, 2021

Ernestine Bulmer Conley was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 9, 1939 to Wilfred and Elaine Bulmer. Her parents welcomed two daughters that day, mom and her twin sister Emily. The family moved to Ipava, Illinois where she was raised with her 9 siblings. Arthur (Millie) Johnson, William (Sonia) Bulmer, Elaine (John) Brown, Jeanette (Ron) Johnston, Emily (Paul) McKim, John (Melinda) Bulmer, Fred (Kay) Bulmer, Andy (Bobbie) Bulmer, and Sally (Terry) Atwater. How Grandma and Grandpa Bulmer managed this Bulmer Bunch will forever be a mystery.

Mom held onto the friendships she made growing up. We remember hearing stories about our parents, Bill, Ann, Betty, Robert, and JoAnn.

On June 14, 1958 she married Howard Robinson. The boy she met at a donkey basketball game in the basement of the Ipava High School. Together, they raised 5 children in Ipava. Wendell (Tina), Dale (Lisa), Dean, Lonnie (Lisa), and Kathy (Sterling). Our memories include homemade cookies and tending the garden so she could do the canning. She always welcomed our friends to sit at the supper table. We remember how she called us by name from the bottom of the stairs to wake us for school. She raised us with grace and unconditional love.

We gave her 11 grandchildren, Tasha, Nickie, Randie, Dani, Stevie, Josh, Dalton, Shannon, Cody, Taylor, and Riley. They gave her 5 great-grandchildren, Alicia, Paiton, Paxton, Witten, and Lili Ann. Family was of utmost importance to our mom. She was the kindest daughter, sister, mother, aunt, and gram. The family is blessed to call her “ours”.

Her life brought her out west where she met and married Bill Conley. After Bill’s death, mom wanted to return to her roots. After 21 years, she left Nevada for her forever home in Ipava. Coincidentally, the home she raised her family in was remodeled and available. It was there she lived until her passing on July 14, 2021. To the world, she was a mother. To us, she was our world.

Visitation will be held July 18, 2021 from 2-4pm at Shawgo Memorial home in Astoria, Illinois. Cremation Rites will be accorded after the visitation. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. A celebration of life will be held in Ipava at a later date. Fly high our beautiful soul. We will meet again.
