Roger A. Gruber

February 25th, 1953 – June 13th, 2021

Roger Alan Gruber, age 68, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle went to be with our Lord on June 13th after losing a long battle with cancer. At his bedside was Cyndi, wife of 18 years, and his step-son Michael.

He was born in Macomb, Illinois, on February 25, 1953 to Gerald "Eddie" and Barbara (Shawgo) Gruber of Astoria, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.

Roger is survived by his wife of 18 years, Cyndi Gruber, his son Curtis Gruber of Washington, IL, step-children Michael Yocom of Galveston, TX and Melissa Smith of St. David, IL, grandchildren Teagan Gruber of Ladd, IL, and Natalie (and Ace) Smith of St. David, IL, brother Larry Gruber of Hanna City, IL and sisters Amy Middleton of Louisville, KY and Susie Spackman of St. Charles, IL, seven nieces and one nephew, and two beloved dogs, Garth and Leila.

Roger's early life was traveling and living in multiple places in the United States as part of a Navy family. The family settled in Farmington, IL in 1968 where he attended Farmington East High School.

He was proud to have his first responder license and to be part of the Cass-Putman Rescue Squad while they lived in Cuba, IL.

In 2016 they moved to Leesville, LA where he was employed by Walmart and McDonalds.

To fulfill a promise to his wife, they moved to Galveston in 2019 to enjoy life by the beach. There he was employed by Pleasure Pier and he was an active attendant at the Lighthouse Church.

Graveside services will be held on October 16th at 11:00 a.m. at the Astoria Cemetery. Pastor Randy Munson will officiate. There is no visitation.
