Marjorie M. Wherley
January 18th, 1919 – September 26th, 2015
Marjorie Mable Wherley, age 96 of Lafayette Square in Macomb, IL, formerly of Table Grove, IL, passed away at 5:40 pm Saturday, September 26, 2015 at The Elms in Macomb, IL. She was born on January 18, 1919 in Oakland Township, Schuyler County, IL, the daughter of Roy and Nellie (Morrell) Heaton. On May 17, 1941, Marjorie married Robert Wherley in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1998.
Marjorie was a 1937 graduate of Vermont High School and a 1939 graduate of Western Illinois Teachers College. She taught school at Shinn School for 2 years, Hazel Green School for 2 years, and Table Grove School for 4 years, where she taught 5th and 6th grades.
She was a former member of the Table Grove Community Church where she served as treasurer for 21 years. She was active in their Women's Fellowship and was treasurer from 1980 to 2004. She was a member of the Laurel Star Chapter 852 of the Order of the Eastern Star of Table Grove where she served as past Worthy Matron. She was a long time member of the HEA and was part of The Crossing family of Macomb, IL.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter-in-law, Michelle Wherley of Table Grove, two grandchildren, Anthony (and Rhonda) Wherley of Mason City, IL and Christy Wherley of Macomb, three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Gage, and Cole Wherley of Mason City, and two brothers, Jim (and Opal) Heaton of Astoria, IL and Stanley "Bill" Heaton of Quincy, IL.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, her son Dennis Wherley, four sisters, Nedra Andrews, Melba Rhodes, Louise "Poodge" Parr, and Wanda Brown, and one brother, Franklin "Bud" Heaton.
Services will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 11:00 am at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the McDonough District Hospice of Macomb. Cremation rites have been accorded and interment of ashes will be at the Harris Cemetery in Table Grove at a later date.
