Alex R. Stambaugh

December 28th, 1987 – October 12th, 2015

Alex Stambaugh, age 27, of Davenport, IA, passed away at 9:02 am on Monday, October 12, 2015 at his parents home in Astoria, IL. He was born on December 28, 1987 in Springfield, IL the son of Bob and Jo Ann (Skillen) Stambaugh.

Survivors include his parents, Bob and Jo Ann Stambaugh of Astoria, brother, Adam (and Katie Bryant) Stambaugh of Macomb, IL and grandmother, Larella Stambaugh of Astoria.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Verle "Buck" Stambaugh and Cecelia and Joseph Skillen.

Alex graduated from Spoon River College and the Wind Airstream School in California. He was a fork lift operator at Nestle-Purina Company in Davenport, IA.

He was a St. Jude Child. He loved the Cubs and the Colts, especially Andrew Luck. He loved Harley Mae, his bulldog, and loved and adored his family and friends, both old and new.

Services will be held at 6 pm on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Professor Joe Degitz will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 3 to 6 pm also on Friday, October 16. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Memorials may be made to St. Judes Children Research Hospital.

There are no words to comfort loving parents who lose a child. Age doesn't matter, he fought hard at an early age to survive, strong and brave. All I can say is how truly, truly we are so very sorry about this tragedy. I hope somehow it helps to know that we care, as do SO many others, and you all will be in our prayers for a long time. I can't believe this. I remember when you were pregnant with him. I was in the 3rd grade and you were my teacher. I can't express how sorry I am to hear this. No words will heal your pain. She adored Alex. Alex was dealt with so many challenges throughout his young life. More than most of us are dealt with in a lifetime. Jo, Bob, Adam, and Katie, my heart broke when I heard about Alex yesterday. I cannot stop crying. All the beautiful memories of when I learned of Jo's second pregnancy, his birth, when we all took him to U of I
came flooding back. I will not ask "why this happened?" because I would like to think that my faith, our faith in the wisdom and magnificence of God is much, much stronger and more encompassing than all the doubts of life combined. I am a friend of Alex's from Davenport, and sorry that I will not have an opportunity to meet you in Astoria. He was a man of depth and good character. He knew where he came from and where the dangers lay. The ethics he had developed were excellent, and his humility was out front. I never saw him laugh at someone less fortunate.
