Betty J. McCombs

March 9th, 1926 – November 15th, 2015

Betty J. McCombs, age 89 of Blandinsville, IL, formerly of Bader, passed away at 1:33 am on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb, IL. She was born on March 9, 1926 in Norton Township, Michigan, the daughter of James and Frances (Zeits) Miller. Betty married Robert E. McCombs on December 6, 1945 in Rushville, IL. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1981.

Betty was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, Ruth Fleming, Edna Fitzgerald, and Laura Stapleton.

Surviving are her son, Jerry (and Kathleen) McCombs of Peoria, IL, her daughter Janice (and Brian) Johnson of Blandinsville, IL, 5 grandchildren; Clint McCombs, Chelsea McCombs, Brian Johnson, Jr., Shane Johnson, and Chris (and Julie) Johnson, 7 great-grandchildren; Allyssa Johnson, Alex Johnson, Katie Johnson, Kimberley Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Austin Gebhardt, and Nichole Johnson, and 3 great-great-grandsons, Aiden Johnson, Jackson Gallagher, and Briley Caufman.

Betty worked at the Astoria Fiber Steel plant and was a homemaker.

She lived in Bader and moved to Blandinsville in 1991. She enjoyed tending her garden and loved flowers and bowling. She was a member of the Blandinsville Christian Church.

Services will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, November 19th at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Gordon Blankenship will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Bader Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
