Carol Lee Orwig
November 14th, 1934 – February 2nd, 2016
Carol Lee Orwig, 81, of Canton, passed away at 11:25 am on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born on November 14, 1934 in Peoria, the daughter of Dayle and Elzada (Baumgartner) Markley. Carol married John Welker on February 25, 1952 in Weldon, AR. He preceded her on death on August 18, 1997. She later married Gary Orwig on June 6, 2009 in Canton, IL. He survives.
Also surviving are her 3 daughters, Deborah (and Kerry Wade) Welker of Springfield, OR, Ronda (and Charlie) Tarboletti of Bartlesville, OK and Patti Shoop of Ipava, step-daughter, Kandy (and Don) Pollitt of Lewistown, step-son, Brian (and Natalie) Orwig of Fairview, 3 grandsons, Zachary Welker, Michael (Karen) Hammond and Aaron (and Cassie) Tarboletti, 3 step-grandchildren, Drake (and Stephanie) Pollitt, Narissa Orwig and Brock Orwig, 4 great-grandchildren: Tristan Hammond, Page Welker, Teagan Hammond and Palmer Tarboletti, step-great-grandson, Xandyr Pollitt, brother, Robert (and Connie) Markley of Havana and her sister, Sara Webb of Canton.
She is also preceded in death by her twin-sister, Carolyn Bollinger.
Carol was a secretary at Spoon River College, retiring in 1995. She attended The Evangelical Free Church in Canton where she worked in the nursery, helped at the children’s church and vacation bible school.
Services will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Brandon Theobold will be officiating. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion cemetery in Astoria. Memorials may be made American Cancer Society or Evangelical Free Church in Canton.
