Susan J. Vaughn

March 22nd, 1958 – July 4th, 2016

Susan J. Vaughn, 58, of Vermont passed away at 12:43 a.m. on Monday, July 4, 2016, at her home.

She was born March 22, 1958, in Avon to Dale and Margaret “Butch” Selph. She married Robert. E. “Bobby” Vaughn Jr. on March 19, 1977, in Table Grove. He survives.

Also surviving are her parents, of Table Grove; two children, Haily (Jed) Rhoades of Canton and Karly (Charlie) Hite of Industry; one brother, Danny Selph of Table Grove; and four grandchildren, Gaven and Lexie Hite of Industry and Will and Eli Rhoades of Canton.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Milton (Alene) Selph; and maternal grandparents, George (Mary) Clemens and Martin Negley.

Susan was a child development associate at the Western Illinois University Infant & Pre-School, where she had worked for the last 15 years. Along with her husband, she was the owner of Vaughn Farms in rural Vermont, and was a fantastic farmwife. She was a loving mother and best-friend to her children, and a treasured mimi to her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, where visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be at Vermont Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vermont Rescue Squad or to the Table Grove Rescue Squad.

All I can say is... I'm is disbelief at the loss of Suzie! I have such fond memories of her from my youth! I was so thankful for Facebook that gave me the opportunity to catch up with her and her love of her family! Together we decided we enjoyed our love for repurposing junk into usable pieces! I only wish I could have had a visit in person after 40 years of our high school graduation. With God in our lives we will see her again!

There is a large hole in all of our hearts. I find it difficult to even compose a line or two regarding the loss of my friend, co-worker, and teacher. She had such utter devotion to her friends, family, and students, and I feel we were all blessed. She will be greatly missed! I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Susan worked at the daycare when my girls went there. She was very attached to our adopted daughter Kiara. It was an ajustment for her when we took the girls out of daycare and I became a stay home mom again. Susan was wonderful with Kiara and a great support to me while we were fostering and later adopted the girls. Again it saddens me to know that Susan has passed.
