Russell Hamm

January 19th, 1931 – June 30th, 2014

Russell Glen Hamm was born in Bernadotte Township on January 19, 1931, a son of William and Loreine (McCaughey) Hamm. He lived in Bernadotte Township and graduated from V.I.T. High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 2 years and was stationed in Korea. After returning from the service, Russell joined his family farming and on May 29, 1953 he married Beverly June Beck. They continued to live in Ipava, IL, becoming the parents of 6 children. Russell held several jobs including Burgard Chevrolet, Ipava Elevator, Peabody Coal Company, Construction and finally was self employed at the end of his working career. He was a member of the Ipava American Legion Post 17 and served as president for several years. He devoted much of his time to volunteering and attending special events. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Beverly J. Hamm of Havana, IL, daughter Becky (and Joe) Hatch-Prochaska of Woodridge, IL, daughter Mary (and Roger McGrew) Layton of Havana, IL, son Glen (and Debbie) Hamm of St. David, IL, daughter Christy (and Fred) Ray of Havana, IL, son-Russell (and Annette) Hamm of Macomb, IL, son Gary Hamm of Havana, IL, 12 Grandchildren, several Great-Grandchildren, 2 sisters Irma (and Marvin) McCormick of Ipava, IL and Marjorie Deakin of Cuba, IL.
Russell is preceded in death by his parents, Grandson Stephen Hamm, brothers Bill, Robert and Harold Hamm and sisters Wilma Baughman and Mildred France.
Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava, IL with a visitation 1 hour prior to service. Reverend Sidney Davis will be officiating. Interment will be at the Ipava Cemetery in Ipava, IL with military rites provided by the Ipava American Legion Post 17. Memorials can be made to the Ipava American Legion Post 17 or choice of the donor.
