Donald T. Anderson
January 19th, 1937 – January 16th, 2017
Donald T. Anderson, age 79, of Springfield, IL, passed away at 4:55 am on Monday, January 16, 2017 at his home. He was born on January 19, 1937 in Springfield, IL, the son of Donald T. and Lucille A. (Leonard) Anderson. They preceded him in death.
He married Judith Skiles on October 28, 1967 at Central Baptist Church in Springfield, IL. She survives. Also surviving are his two children, Lori (and Rich) McDonald of Girard, IL and Brian Anderson of Springfield, IL, their “Purdue” son, Chris (and Bethany) Clopton of Lafayette, IN and their four children and several nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Ridgeley Grade School, Lanphier High School, Purdue University with a B.S. Degree in 1959, Sangamon State University (now UIS) with a M.A. in 1975, and SIU Carbondale with a Ph.D. in 1984.
Donald served in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Naval Reserve.
He served on the staff at Georgia tech in Atlanta, GA as an Adjunct Professor.
Donald was employed by School District 186 of Springfield, IL. He also worked at Simplex Engine Generator Control Systems, Motorola, ISBE, IDPH, Asbestos Professional Services in Breese, IL, the Environmental Institute of Marietta, GA, and served as a consultant to the USEPA in Washington, DC. He also taught asbestos related courses both nationally and internationally.
He was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Springfield and had served on many boards and committees. He was previously a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club, ANSAR Shrine, was a 32nd degree Mason, the Scottish Rite Bodies, Legion of Honor, and the Firefighter’s Club. He was also Chief of the Springfield Auxiliary Police Department when it was disbanded.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18th from 5-7 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Full military rites will be accorded at 7:00 pm by the Astoria American Legion Post #25. Additional visitation will be held on Sunday, January 22nd from 5-8 pm at the Central Baptist Church in Springfield, IL Services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, January 23rd at Central Baptist Church. Reverend Mary Ellen Sharp will be officiating. Interment will be in the Ridgeville Cemetery, Browning IL at 3:00 p.m on the 23rd. Memorials may be made to the Donald and Judith Anderson Football Scholarship at Purdue University or the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
