Junior Lee Winston

October 27th, 1926 – July 1st, 2017

Junior Lee Winston, age 90 of Browning, IL, passed away at 11:01 am on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on October 27, 1926 in Woodland Twp., Fulton Co., IL, the son of Edward Lester and Dorothy Agnes (Workman) Winston. He married Elsie Konetzny on February 19, 1949 in Havana, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Steven (and Sharleen) Winston of Wheeling, IL, Michael (and Lou Ann) Winston of Rushville, IL, and Marty (and Bonnie) Winston of Augusta, IL, four grandchildren, R.J. (and Trisha) Haines, Ashley (and Marty) Pritchett, Morgan Winston, and Megan Winston, four great-grandchildren Brayden, Camryn, Cora, and Devynn Haines, his sister Beverly Burgard of Rushville, IL, and two brothers, Jack (and Betty) Winston of Rushville, IL, and Bill (and Sondra) Winston of Monmouth, IL.

Junior was preceded in death by his daughter Carla Annette Winston in 1960 and his parents.

He was a Navy veteran of WW II, serving on the Island of Palawan in the Philippines from 1944 to 1946 attaining the rank of Seaman First Class.

Junior was a Heavy Equipment Operator, working for the Army Corps of Engineers for 34 years, retiring in 1981. He then became a Commercial Fisherman and owned and operated Winston Fish Market in Browning, IL.

He was a member of the Browning United Methodist Church where he served on the church maintenance committee. He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

He was recognized by the Modern Woodmen for his volunteer work in the community that included snow removal for the elderly and the churches. He loved duck hunting and was an avid gardener.

Junior especially enjoyed attending and supporting his grandchildren's school activities.

Services will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Browning United Methodist Church. Pastor Charla Meyers will officiate. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 5th from 5-7 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Memorials may be made in Junior's memory to the Browning United Methodist Church or the Browning Senior Center. Interment will be in the Browning Cemetery with full military rites.

I am very late with condolences but have just seen Lee's obit. O am very sorry for your loss.. My Dad also worked for the Corp of Eng and was a friend of the family. His name was (died in 2010 and mom died in 2011) Ace Dupoy. Mom was Betty. Anyway, when I saw thus I had to comment.
