Jerry L. Tilton

December 6th, 1940 – August 19th, 2017

Jerry Lee Tilton, age 76 of Vermont, IL, passed away at 7:23 pm on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at his home. He was born on December 6, 1940 in Macomb, IL, the son of Wayman and Ruby (Tharpe) Tilton. He married Judy Smith on March 27, 1984 in Vermont. She survives.

Also surviving are his son, Jeremy (and Lindsay) Tilton of Ipava, IL, two daughters, Gina Tilton of Vermont and Michelle (and Jerry) Bannan of Washington, IL, one son-in-law Russell Thornton of Macomb, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one brother Gary (and Vivian) Tilton of Lake Havasu, AZ, and one brother-in-law Gene Smith of Vermont.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Cassandra Comstock and Angela Thornton.

He was a graduate of Macomb High School and a veteran of the US Navy, serving at the Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton, CA.

He worked at St. Francis Hospital in Macomb as a surgical assistant. He also worked for MetLife Insurance, Webster Bag Factory, Vermont Hardware and he farmed.

Jerry served as Mayor of Vermont, was a 4-H Leader and was a member of the Vermont American Legion Post #26.

Graveside services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, August 26th at the Vermont Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Vermont American Legion Post #26. Memorials may be given to Illinois Cancer Care or the McDonough District Hospice. There will be no visitation.
