Homer E. "Gene" "Pistol" Wright
November 22nd, 1930 – September 3rd, 2017
Homer Eugene “Gene” “Pistol” “Sarge” Wright, age 86 of Vermont, IL, passed away peacefully with family by his side at 4:51 PM on Sunday, September 3, 2017, at Unity Point Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria, IL. He was born on November 22, 1930, in Vermont Township, Fulton County, Illinois, the son of Della May (Emig) Wright. Gene married Annemarie Elise Wassmuth on September 13, 1960, in Fulda, Germany. She proceeded him in death on May 14, 1982.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Max D. Wright, Cecil Wright Jr., and his sister Hilma Guppy. He has a sister Bessie Ellen Bricker and brother Robert Wright.
Gene is survived by his sons Cecil E. Wright of Rock Island, IL, Dennis (Marnie) Wright of Fountain Hills, AZ, and his daughter Kathryn (Mike) Holliday of Gilbert, AZ, Four grandchildren: Darrell Adkins, Jordyn Wright, Samantha Wright, and Colby Wright.
SFC Wright was an Army Veteran serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After completing over 20 years, he retired in 1971. He then went to work for Caterpillar as a Heavy Crane Operator and retired in 1986.
Gene especially enjoyed playing cards, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
Gene was a very special person with a unique personality. To his close friends he was best
known as Pistol with no explanation needed.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 2:00 PM at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery with full military rites.
In lieu of flowers, family are requesting donations to be made to Unity Point Health Methodist-Proctor Foundation, 120 NE Glen Oak, Ste. 101, Peoria, IL 61636.

Cecil, Dennis, Kathryn; I am sorry for your loss. I looked up to your dad. His Army service influenced me. I remember receiving some of his uniforms, boots, etc. I cherish those memories. God Bless and comfort all of you.
