Sidney H. Thomas

September 26th, 1942 – March 23rd, 2018

Sidney H. Thomas, 75, of Vermont, IL, passed away at 9:25 pm on Friday, March 23, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. He was born on September 26, 1942 in Macon, GA, the son of Sidney M. and Esther L. (Anderson) Thomas. Sidney married Marion Grimmer on September 24, 1962 in Astoria, IL. She Survives.

Also surviving are his 3 daughters, Michelle McDougal of New Braunfels, TX, Tracie (and Gary) Wyatt of White Hall, IL and Cynthia Bowie of College Station, TX, son, Eric (and Thelma) Thomas of Roan Mountain, TN, 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lowell Kent Thomas.

Sidney worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company, retiring after 31 years.

He served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran.

Sidney was a member of the Vermont American Legion. His hobbies included woodworking and automotive work. He was well known in the Vermont area for his mechanical expertise, as many people would go to him with their automotive troubles. Sidney and Marion enjoyed taking their children on vacations all across the country. He loved his family and was a great family man. He also had a great love for animals.

Cremation Rites have been accorded. A graveside service in the Vermont Cemetery will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Sidney Thomas Memorial Fund in care of CEFCU.
