Dixie Watkins

June 9th, 1943 – August 1st, 2014

Dixie Mae Watkins, age 71, passed away at 6:17 pm Friday, August 1, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. She was born on June 9, 1943 in Pekin, IL, the daughter of Calvin H. and Catherine M. (Taylor) Pierson. Dixie married John R. Watkins, Sr. on February 16, 1960 in Havana, IL. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1976. She then made her home with John Crowe, Sr. for over 20 years. He preceded her in death, also.
Dixie worked as a waitress at Petticoat Junction near Havana, IL. She also worked in Housekeeping at the Astoria Health Care Center for over 10 years.
She loved to fish.
Dixie is survived by three daughters, Kelley (and Jay) Showalter of Kilbourne, IL, Lisa (and Larry) Bucher and Katie (and Shawn) Gouran, both of Astoria, IL, two sons, John (and Paula) Watkins of Astoria, IL and Ronnie (and Angie Payne) Watkins of Smithfield, IL, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, three sisters, Loretta Hurt of Havana, IL, Colleen (and Frank) Otto of Lewistown, IL, and Sharon Richardson of Bath, IL, and two brothers, Larry (and Ruth) Pierson of Havana, IL and Donald Lippert of Morton, IL
Dixie was preceded in death by two sons, Eric and Robert Watkins, two daughters, Lori and Kimberly Watkins, two brothers, Charles Lippert and Wilber Pierson, and one sister Shirley Kelly.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 4th from 6-8 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded following visitation. Memorials may be made to the Astoria Rescue Squad.
