Willie Bucher

August 20th, 1936 – August 13th, 2014

William Edward "Willie" Bucher, age 77 of Astoria, passed away at 7:10 am Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Prairie View Care Center in Lewistown, IL. He was born on August 20, 1936 in Pekin, a son of Isaac G. and Ferne M. (Kessler) Bucher. On November 30, 1954, Willie married Nellie Grace Busby in Astoria. She survives.
Also surviving are his daughter, Lu Ann (and Charlie) Bollinger of Astoria, two sons, Alvin (and Lori) Bucher and Larry (and Lisa) Bucher, both of Astoria, ten grandchildren, Jason (and Mary Ann) Bollinger, Jamie Bollinger, Tyler (and Sarah Ireland) Bollinger, Isaac (and Jenni Brooks) Bucher, Rachel Bucher, Clinton (and Nicole Johnson) Bucher, Shawna Wallick, Gary Wallick, Ricky (and Kelly) Bollinger, and Robbie Bollinger, thirteen great-grandchildren, Mackena Bollinger, Oakley Bollinger, Jarrett Bollinger, Jaron Bollinger, Layla Bollinger, Zachary Bucher, Preston Bucher, Hailey Johnson, Brandon Brooks, Kodi Bollinger, Kaili Bollinger, Kaydon Bollinger, and Ethan Walljasper Bucher, two sisters, Carolyn (and Rod) Bricker of Torrington, WY and Alice (and Wendell) Clanin of Astoria, IL, and three brothers, Jim (and Susie) Bucher of Macomb, IL, Bob (and Susie) Bucher and Albert (and Marsha) Bucher, both of Astoria.
Willie was preceded in death by one grandson Erik Bucher and one brother Tom Bucher.
Willie was a coal miner, working for AMAX Coal Company, retiring in 1983. He worked at Sunspot Mine in Vermont, Truex Mine in Canton, IL, and for Peabody Coal Company in Rushville, IL.
He also was a grain, livestock, and dairy farmer, farming on the family farm north of Summum. He was founder of the Bucher Fence Building Company and retired from it in 2011.
He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He enjoyed bowling in the Vermont Bowling League and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed playing softball and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Denver Broncos.
Willie loved to entertain and enjoyed hosting the Bucher fish fries and hog roasts at his home.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11:00 am at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Reverend Ken Peterson will officiate. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 15th from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Astoria Park District.
