John E. Lawson

October 9th, 1964 – August 2nd, 2018

John E. Lawson, 53, of Canton, IL, formerly of Astoria, IL, passed away at 12:58 am on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at his home. He was born on October 9, 1964 in Canton, the son of John and Lola (Remmers) Lawson. John married Carol Shaughnessy on September 30, 2013 in Lewistown, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his 3 sons, Keith Lawson of Astoria, IL, Aaron (and Ella) Lawson of Vermont, IL and Zachary (and Amy) Lawson of Canton, step-daughter, Nicole (and Terry) Beatty of Peoria, IL, 2 step-sons, Jonathan (and Shyla) Beatty of Bushnell, IL and Kyle (and Nicole) Shaughnessy of Decatur, IL, 7 Grandchildren, father, John (and Tammy) Lawson of Elko, NV, mother, Lola Lawson of Astoria, 3 sisters, Kathy (and Dennis) Anderson of Madisonvillle, TN, Felicia (and Todd) Duncan of Astoria and Amber (and Ken) Lawson of Norwood, IL and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, brother, Aaron Lawson and niece, Jesse Fisher.

John worked at Keystone Steel & Wire for 22 years.

He served in the US Navy, where he was a boiler tender.

He was a member of the Astoria American Legion Post #25 and the Union. John was an avid Cubs, Bears and Illini fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, family cookouts and fishing.

Services will be held at 10 am on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery in Astoria, with full military rites provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
