Kathryn A. Marshall
July 19th, 1957 – August 18th, 2018
Kathy Marshall died Saturday, August 18, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO after fighting a short, yet incredibly brave battle with cancer.
Kathy was born to Robert M. and Martha Ann Marshall on July 19, 1957 and was raised on a farm outside of Ipava, IL. She was a 1975 graduate of VIT High School in Table Grove, IL and later graduated from Graham School of Nursing in Canton, IL in 1978. Kathy served as a registered nurse for 40 years. She began her career in Des Moines, IA and later moved to El Paso, TX to work near her mother’s family for 18 years. Kathy then transitioned to St. Louis, MO in 1997 so she could be closer to her immediate family. She worked at Des Peres Hospital for the last 21 years and enjoyed the relationships she developed with her beloved colleagues. During her career, Kathy contributed to a range of operating room services, specializing in open-heart, orthopedic, and neurological surgery. She eventually managed inventory and surgical supplies as well as trained new surgical nurses.
Family was always a priority for Kathy. She loved spoiling her dear nieces and nephews and she always took great interest in the health needs of her family. Kathy was an animal lover, an avid fan of Bette Davis movies, and enjoyed the talents of Barbara Streisand. She was an amazing cook and loved to bake for her family and friends. Kathy had a beautiful soul. Her kindness and generosity toward others was one of her many gifts and are attributes we would strive to live up to.
Kathy is survived by her mother Martha Marshall Sloan of Bushnell, IL, sister Karen (Albert) Bussone of Normal, IL, brother Robert K. (Heather) Marshall of Vermont, IL, sister Beverly Marshall of Streamwood, IL, brother Philip Marshall of Oshkosh, WI, niece Amanda (Michael) Lorentz of Springfield, IL, niece Sarah (Tristan) Estep of Cerro Gordo, IL, nephew Joseph Marshall of Macomb, IL, and nephew Peter Bussone of Normal, IL.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert M. Marshall in 2014.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL with funeral services starting at 4 pm. Interment will take place at Pennington Point Cemetery in Adair, IL. following the service. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in Peoria, IL.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke’s Hospital for their quality care.

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Kathy's sudden passing.
I have many great memories of Kathy but my most favorite has to be when she got everyone up to sing "Midnight Train to Georgia" (complete with the Pips dance moves) after Phil's graduation from Wesleyan. From then on, anytime I hear that song, she is the first thing that comes to mind, and it always makes me smile. Always will. God bless Kitten.
To Phil and the whole Marshall family, with deepest sympathy and love. ~ Jill Schaefer
