Darlene Derry

January 23rd, 1928 – April 29th, 2019

Darlene Derry, age 91 of Canton, Il, formerly of Astoria, East Peoria, and Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away at 5:35 pm Monday, April 29, 2019 at Graham Hospital in Canton, IL. She was born on January 23, 1928 in Fulton County, IL, the daughter of Charles Lloyd and Mary Elizabeth (Brown) Fisk. Darlene married Bernard Derry on September 14, 1947 in Astoria. They honeymooned in California for 6 months.

As a young woman, she was an air traffic controller until marriage changed her path. She spent her life supporting her husband in farming and raising her family.

Darlene and her husband were faithful members of the Summum Christian Church where she was very active with her great baking skills at all the funeral dinners and potlucks.

She was a gifted gardener and the keeper of many cats and a few favorite dogs.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, her great grandson Ryan Petefish and her brother George Fisk.

She moved to Canton for the remaining twelve years of her life and always enjoyed feeding her birds and continued baking. Her companion (her other child), Tiger her cat, stayed faithfully by her side.

Darlene is survived by her son Dr. Greg (and Susan) Derry of Cuba, IL, her daughter Kathy (and Ron) Hayes of Groveland, IL, four grandchildren; Kim Watkins, Jennifer Derry, Gina (and Gary) Sciortino, and Jeremy Hayes, four great-grandchildren; Carson (and Austin) Markland, Konnor Petefish, Kailee Sciortino and Laney Sciortino, one great-great-grandson Landon Markland, one sister Rose (and Bill) Heger of Hot Springs, AR and one brother Donald Fisk of Rolla, MO.

Services will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Pastor Darren Fish and granddaughter Kim Watkins will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Humane Society or TAPS in Pekin, IL
