Rosalie J. Grove
April 27th, 1935 – June 17th, 2019
Rosalie J. Grove, 84, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 8:18 am on Monday, June 17, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. She was born on April 27, 1935 in Astoria, the daughter of Kenneth and Christine (Weber) Parr. Rosalie married Gene Grove on March 20, 1992 in Lewistown, IL. He survives.
Survivors also include her 3 daughters, Marilyn Shawgo of Astoria, Janet (and Monte) Graham of Havana, IL and Christine (and Robert) Gunn of Florissant, MO, 2 sons, Randy (and Lori) Hammond of Bath, IL and Kenneth (and Mary) Baker of Astoria, 1 step-son, Gene (and Lori) Howard of Ipava, IL, 17 grandchildren; Anissa (and Matt) Plummer, Alisha (and Casey) Morrow, Jeremy Settles, Gentre (and Dana) Graham, Trissa (and Travis) Koster, Amy (and Shannon) Clyde, Michael (and Karen) Hammond, Chad Hammond, Kolton (and Shelbi) Hammond, Clinton Hammond, Ashley Bell, Kidd Baker, Eric Baker, Atrista (and Ivan) Massey, Kelsie (and Justin) Dupoy, Kristin (and Anthoney) Anderson, and Kaylie (and Cody) Schultz, 30 great-grandchildren; Jake and Haley Plummer, Tage Morrow, Kevin Settles, Savanah Settles, Sereanah Settles, Gracin, Lakin, Daxton, and Karsin Graham, Talon and Takoda Koster, Benton and Jameson Hammond, Bonnie Hammond, Teagan and Tristan Hammond, Melissa French, Allison Bell, Jonah, Elijah and Easton Massey, Harley and Austin Warner, Wyatt and Weston Dupoy, Addisyn and Keegan Anderson, and Cooper Schultz.
She is preceded in death by her son, Wallace Kevin Hammond and son-in-law Mike Shawgo.
Rosalie worked at Amax Coal Mine Company where she drove haulage and supply trucks and was a school bus driver for Astoria and South Fulton schools. She was also a welder at Admiral in Galesburg and sewed jackets at The Glove Factory in Galesburg. She volunteered as a driver for Red Cross and at the Astoria-South Fulton Senior Center.
She was a member of the Astoria American Legion Post #25 Auxiliary and Summum Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing, taking pictures, traveling and fishing.
Services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Darrin Fish will officiate. Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Summum Cemetery in Summum, IL. Memorials may be made to the Summum Christian Church or Summum Cemetery.
