Frances E. Hilton

December 1st, 1923 – September 1st, 2019

Frances E. Hilton, 95, of Smithfield, IL, passed away at 9:22 pm on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Graham Hospital in Canton, IL. She was born on December 1, 1923 in Astoria, IL, the daughter of John and Maude Irene (Wickwire) Shaw. Frances married Harold “Rusty” Hilton on July 21, 1941 in Hannibal, MO. Harold preceded Francis in death on June 28, 1991.

She is also preceded by her infant son, Darrell Hilton, her son, Danny Hilton, 4 brothers, Herbert, Larry, Jim and Willard Shaw, and 2 sisters, Rose Ellen Cluney and Lila Atwater.

Survivors include her son, Dennis Hilton of Marietta, IL, daughter, Kathy (and Joseph) Ford of Cuba, IL, 4 grandchildren, Tiffany (and Dennis) Clark, Terie Nieukirk, Brandon (and Becky) Nieukirk and Tami (and Damon) McCombs and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker.

Frances attended Ipava High School. She was a member of Modern Woodmen of America and director of the Modern Woodmen of America Club 1460 of Smithfield for 50 year. She volunteered at the Red Brick School in Smithfield for Chicken Noodle dinners and served on the board at the Cuba Senior Center for several years. She enjoyed bird watching, canning, sewing, gardening and flowers. She also made the best watermelon pickles.

A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 2:30 pm in the Ipava Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 1 to 2 pm on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Memorials may be made to the Red Brick School or the Cuba Senior Center.

I am so sorry for your loss. I only had the privelage of seeing her a handful of times.She seemed to be quite a woman. I am.sure you will have no problem keeping her memories and spirit alive in your hearts. My thoughts are with you through this rough time.
