George W. Heller

June 3rd, 1916 – October 30th, 2014

George W. Heller, age 98 of Table Grove, IL, passed away at 9:10 am on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at his home. He was born on June 3, 1916 in Farmers Township, Fulton County, IL, a son of James Newton and Ernestine (Schmidt) Heller. He married Dorothy Chambers on December 8, 1937 in Palmyra, MO. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Dorla (and Bill) Adamson of Peoria, IL and Janet (and Lee) Cobb of Macomb, IL, her daughter-in-law Violet Heller of Table Grove, IL, two sons, Don (and Becky) Heller of Ipava, IL, and Rick (and Kathy) Heller of Canton, IL, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen and Ronald Heller, four sisters, Amanda Anderson, Ellen Denner, Maxine Groff, and Mary Helmridge, and four brothers, Newton, Russell, Eugene, and Paul Heller.

During WW II, George worked at the canteen and barracks at Camp Ellis. He worked at the Table Grove Elevator for 30 years and was a grain and livestock farmer.

George enjoyed eating and visiting at the Bernadotte Cafe. He also enjoyed going to his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, traveling around the USA with the Table Grove Community Church group, especially his brother Paul and wife Frances, and bowling. He was an avid bowler.

He was on the Board of Directors of the Table Grove Savings and Loan for 27 years.

Services will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 11:00 am at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service. Pastor Rob Harrison will officiate. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery, Vermont, IL. Memorials may be made to the Bernadotte Park, the Table Grove Community Church, or the Table Grove Rescue Squad.
