Douglas D. Hammack

October 18th, 1943 – December 27th, 2019

Douglas D. Hammack, 76, of Fredrick, IL, passed away at 4:20 pm on Friday, December 27, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on October 18, 1943 in Fulton County, IL, the son of Scott and Lela (Hampton) Hammack. He married Donna Friday on May 28, 1968 in Fredrick, IL. She survives.

Other survivors include his 2 daughters, Lori (and Gerald Dorris) Fischer of Southern Illinois and Bonnie (and Danny Wheeler Sr.) Hammack of Pleasant View, IL, 3 sons, Douglas (and Ann) Hammack Jr. of Vermont, Russell Hammack of Pleasant View, and Wayne Hammack of Pleasant View, 5 grandchildren, Kris Fischer, Shaun Hiland, Justin (and Molly) Hiland, Brittany Wheeler, and Danny Wheeler Jr., and 2 great-grandchildren, Colt Schisler and Chloe Hiland, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his son, Jack Olroyd, his parents, 1 sister, Lucille Morris, and 5 brothers, Larry, Ralph, Donald, Doyle and Dale Hammack.

Douglas worked several different jobs including, Oscar Mayer in Beardstown, IL, farming, numerous sawmills and logging with his brothers.

Douglas was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed hunting, especially rabbit and squirrel, and spending time with his family. He was a baseball fan and Chicago Cubs fan. He was an outdoors type of person.

Services will be at 11 am on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Shawgo Memorial Home. Pastor Mike Shirley will be officiating. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Astoria, IL. Memorials may be made to the Douglas Hammack Memorial Fund.
