Marshall Devere Scrogum

April 21st, 1922 – January 21st, 2020

Marshall Devere Scrogum, 97, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 5:25 pm on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at The Elms in Macomb, IL. He was born on April 21, 1922 in Fulton County, IL, the son of Hobart and Irma (Parr) Scrogum. Devere married Marjorie Klinedinst on January 12, 1947 in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are his 3 daughters, Marsha (and Ray) Adkins of Astoria, Cheryl (and Dennis) Dye of Reedsburg, WI and Mary Sue (and Mark) Clayton of West Paducah, KY, son, Michael (and Penny) Scrogum of Macomb, 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren, and his great-great-grandson.

He is preceded by his parents, 2 sons, Terry and Jerry Scrogum, 1 step-grandson, and his brother Hobart Scrogum.

He farmed his entire life. Devere and Marjorie owned and operated the Tool and Treasure Shoppe in Astoria for 25 years in their spare time.

He was a longtime member and board member of the Summum Christian Church and the Summum Cemetery Board. Devere and Marjorie wintered in Harlingen, Texas for 16 years. He also enjoyed fishing, woodworking and puzzles.

Services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Larry Smith will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, January 24, 2020. Interment will be in the Summum Cemetery in Summum, IL. Memorials may be made to Summum Christian Church or the Macomb Nazaren Church.
