Dwayne "Shorty Bill" W. Danner

April 30th, 1927 – February 5th, 2020

Dwayne “Shorty Bill” W. Danner, 92, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 11:55 pm on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on April 30, 1927 in Pleasant Township, Fulton County, IL, the son of Lester and Lola (Shawgo) Danner. Shorty Bill married Ruth Hamm on March 25, 1950 in Rushville, IL. Ruth passed away on October 16, 2011.

Also preceding him in death is his 2 infant sibling, brother, Loren Danner and son-in-law, Larry Brigg.

Survivors include his son, Neil (and Wendy) Danner of Astoria, 2 daughters, Joyce Briggs of Astoria, and Cindy (and Randy) Constable of Rushville, IL, 3 grandchildren, Joey (and Stephanie) Briggs, Lacey (and Jake) Welch, and Craig Danner, 7 great-grandchildren, Audrey, Addison, Anna, Aidan, and Alex Briggs, Gracie and Bobby Welch, 2 sisters, Willadean Shaffer of Astoria, Estyl (and Jake) McCombs of Astoria, and his brother, Wendell ‘Tuffy’ Danner of Rushville.

His first job was working in the mechanic shop at Camp Ellis in Ipava, IL. He went on to work as a coal miner, he worked at Astoria Body Corporation, and as a welder at Fiber Steel in Astoria.

Shorty Bill served on the Astoria Town Board for 25 years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a hard worker who liked to garden, dance, and loved his family.

Services will be held at 10 am on Monday, February 10, 2020 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Ben Murray will be officiating. A visitation will take place from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday, February 9, 2020. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oncology Dept. at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville or the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.
