Robert E. Belville

September 23rd, 1932 – February 11th, 2020

Robert E. Belville, 87, of Astoria, Il, passed away at 11:15 pm on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at his home. He was born on Friday, September 23, 1932 in Browning, IL, the son of Glen and Elva (Newell) Belville. He married Mary Lou Parsano on April 3, 1954 in Ipava, IL. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2008.

He is also preceded by his son, Jerry ‘Banjo’ Belville, 3 brothers, Roy, Jerry and Raymond Belville, and 3 sisters, Edith Dowler, Bonnie Hill and Iola Stoneking.

Survivors include his daughter, Becky (and Daniel) Hamm of Astoria, 2 grandsons, Jim Belville of Mapleton, IL and Joel (and Hope) Hamm of Morton, IL, 2 great-granddaughters, Everly and Eliza Hamm, 2 sisters, Donna Thurman of Beardstown, IL and Betty Briney of Bluff City, IL and his brother, George Belville of Beardstown.

Bob first worked for Norris Farms and the Ohio River Company. He went on to work for the State Highway Department for 5 years and at Caterpillar. He later worked at AMAX Coal Company for 22 years.

He served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955 as a seaman.

Bob was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, Astoria American Legion Post #25, and Astoria Christian Church. He was a former member of the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad and the Astoria Town Board. He served as commissioner for Hughes Park in Astoria for several years.

Bob loved to fish. He also loved spending time with his family and friends, hunt and loved to joke around with people. He also enjoyed bowling.

Services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Gary Sheets will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, February 14, 2020 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Full Military Rites provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25. Memorials may be made to the Astoria American legion Post #25, Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad or MDH Hospice.

I truly enjoyed being with Uncle Bob, I remember him as a quiet, gentle soul. I enjoyed talking baseball with him. So many fond memories. I will miss him.
