John S. Moose

May 10th, 1934 – May 29th, 2020

John Samuel Moose, age 86 of Astoria, Illinois, passed away at 1:57 pm Friday, May 29, 2020 in the Emergency Room at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Illinois. He was born on May 10, 1934 in Astoria, the son of Glenn Dayle and Mildred (Baldry) Moose.

John Married Linda Breedlove in Astoria in August of 1983. She survives.

Also surviving are four step-sons; Jim (and Carol) Breedlove of Rushville, Illinois, Danny (and Patty) Breedlove of Irag, Wes Breedlove and Rafe (and Anne) Breedlove of Astoria, thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one brother, James (and Janet) Moose of Colona, Illinois.

John was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers; David, Carl, Donald, Ted, and Gary Moose.

He was an Army veteran, serving from 1955 to 1957 in the 2nd Field Artillery Battalion, 21st Artillery.

After the Army, John worked for Ernest Bubb at his gas business in Astoria and later Petrolane Gas Company in Astoria where he was the manager. After the closing of Petrolane, John was a self-employed heating and cooling technician.

He enjoyed bowling, shooting trap, hunting and fishing.

John was a member of the Rushville Flying Club.

Cremation rites have been accorded. No services are planned at this time.

A few years ago at Homecoming, I noticed John trying to cross the park to get to the car. He looked unsteady enough that I jumped up and strolled alongside him and locked arms with him. He smiled and said, “was it that obvious that I needed help?! I laughed and assured him that his charm was what drew me to him!” He laughed as I helped him across the park and into the car and made me promise not to tell anyone that he hadn’t even given me a hard time and was glad I’d been there to help! The world was a whole lot more ornery and fun because John was here.
