Wanda M. Skiles

November 13th, 1933 – July 19th, 2020

Wanda Maxine Skiles, age 86 of Astoria, Illinois, passed away at 4:30 am Sunday, July 19, 2020 at her home. She was born on November 13, 1933 in Table Grove, Illinois, the daughter of Homer and Fern (Callahan) Hollenback. She married Carroll Skiles on August 25, 1951 in Ipava, Illinois. He survives.

Also surviving are her daughter, Janet K. Skiles of Carthage, Illinois, her son mark T. Skiles of Astoria, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Burdette, Gene, and Roy Lee Hollenback.

Wanda was a hard working farmwife all her life and was always ready to go at a moment's notice to help with the farming. She was also a first-class record keeper.

She cooked no less that two meals (Sunday Dinners) every day and it was a common occurrence to see one or two extras at the table to enjoy her excellent cooking. She dearly loved dogs and was always willing to take in a stray in need of a home.

Wanda was a very strong woman and a pillar of strength in a crisis. She had a great sense of humor and a great laugh.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at the Astoria Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. There is no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad or the Fulton County Humane Society.
