Estyl A. McCombs

March 26th, 1931 – August 24th, 2020

Estyl A. McCombs, 89, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 8:15 am on Monday, August 24, 2020 at Farmington Country Manor in Farmington, IL. She was born on March 26, 1931 in Astoria, the daughter of Lester and Lola (Shawgo) Danner. Estyl married Fred Gunter Jr. on November 19, 1949 in Rushville, IL. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1975. She later married Lawrence “Jake” McCombs on November 1, 1989 in Astoria. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2020.

Also preceding her in death are her two brothers, Loren and Dwayne “Shorty Bill” Danner, and two infant siblings.

Survivors include her 4 sons, Dan (and Bonnie) Gunter of Havana, IL, Tim Gunter of Roseville, IL, Tom (and Eric Gore) Gunter of West Peoria, IL and Jim (and Tammy) Gunter of Alexis, IL, 9 Grandchildren, Anissa (and Matt) Plummer, Alisha (and Casey) Morrow, Dustin Cox, Tara (and Damon) Sherrod, Brandon Gunter, Ashley (and Brian) Griffin, Lacey (and Danny) France, Westin Gunter, and Lexie Gunter, step-son, Jeff (and Brandi) McCombs of Peoria, IL, step-daughter, Pam McCombs of Peoria, 2 step-grandchildren, Ella McCombs and Cora McCombs, several great-grandchildren, sister, Willadean Shaffer of Astoria, and brother, Wendell “Tuffy” Danner of Rushville.

She worked at Astoria Healthcare Center and was a Librarian at the Astoria Public Library.

Estyl was a member of the Astoria Christian Church and the Astoria American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed collecting antiques, her fish pond and gardening. She loved to read, knit and spending time with her family.

A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at the Astoria Cemetery. Pastor Matthew Thiner will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Memorials may be made to the Astoria Rescue Squad or the Astoria American Legion Auxiliary.
