Verna L. Morrison Smith

March 31st, 1925 – November 1st, 2020

Verna L. Morrison Smith, 95, of Bushnell, IL, formerly of Ipava, IL, passed away at 7:45 pm on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at The Elms in Macomb, IL. She was born on March 31, 1925 in Bushnell, the daughter of Laurin and Opal (Cowman) DeRenzy.

Verna married William Morrison on May 30, 1948 in Bushnell, IL. He preceded her in death on July 23, 1976. She later married Charles Smith on February 14, 1979 Lewistown, IL. He preceded her in death on August 24, 2005.

She is also preceded by her son, Dale Morrison, 6 brothers, Charles, Gerald, Richard, Howard, Gale and Larry, 4 sisters, Margaret Lamm, Dorothy Saulter, Peggy Briney and Shirley Miller.

Survivors include her 2 sons, Eldon (and Brenda) Morrison of Monmouth, IL and William (and Barbara) Morrison of Lincoln, IL, daughter, Sandra (and John) Ziegler of Wadsworth, NV, step-daughter, Rebecca Morse of Lewistown, IL, 6 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several step-great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Robert DeRenzy of Canton, IL and Kenneth (and Nancy) DeRenzy of Macomb, and her sister, Linda Havens of Marietta, IL.

She was a homemaker. She was also a volunteer at McDonough District Hospital and owner/operator of Morrison’s Hideout in Ipava, IL.

Verna was a member of the Ipava United Presbyterian Church, Ipava Legion Auxiliary for 68 years and Ipava Order of the Eastern Star #226. She enjoyed dancing and singing with the Spoon River Singing Seniors.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, November 5, 2020 in the Bushnell Township Cemetery in Bushnell. Eastern Star services will be conducted by the Ipava Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #226. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis, MO or thr Ipava American Legion Post #17.

Verna and my mother-in-law Pat Elam were good friends. Pat taught Verna how to play dominoes. They played in card groups together and had meals together, along with friend Eleanor Olson. Pat passed away two years ago. I visited Verna several times until Covid hit. So sorry to learn of her death. Rose and Jeff Elam
