Thomas Duane Richards

May 13th, 1939 – November 25th, 2020

Thomas Duane Richards, age 81 of Browning, IL, passed away at 7:10 pm Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at Heritage Manor in Mt. Sterling, IL. He was born on May 13, 1939 in Chandlerville, IL, the son of Thomas and Nancy Bernice (Bauser) Richards. On August 2, 1990, Duane married Shirley Jean Shaw Danner in Hannibal, MO. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters; Pam (and Kent) Hoots of Quincy, IL, Linda (and Bryan) Johnson of Jacksonville, IL, and Jody (and Eric) Moore of Beardstown, IL, his son Doug (and Diane Meyer) Richards of Mt. Olive, NC, 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, his step-daughter Debbie Pherigo of Browning, IL, 3 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-great-grandchildren, and his brother Alfred (and Janet) Richards of Beardstown, IL.

He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Michael and Marty Richards, step-son Gene Danner, brother Ronald Lee Richards, and 2 sisters, Alice Bettis and Geneva Taylor.

Duane worked in the sanitation department at Oscar Mayer in Beardstown and later in the livestock division at Excel in Beardstown, retiring in September of 2004. He also farmed.

Duane and Shirley enjoyed wintering at Dauphin Island, AL and camping at Mark Twain Lake in Missouri. He enjoyed raising horses and his 2 pugs, Rambo and Neal. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, dancing and country music.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, private services will be held with interment in the Astoria Cemetery. Pastor Matthew Thiner will officiate. Memorials may be given to the Browning Senior Center or the Browning Fire Dept. Memorials may be sent to the funeral home at PO Box 525, Astoria, IL 61501
