Irene L. Shaw

February 7th, 1932 – December 17th, 2020

Irene L. Shaw, 88, of Rushville, IL, formerly of Astoria, IL, passed away at 8:05 pm on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Sunday, February 7, 1932 in Astoria, the daughter of Allen and Nelda (Kessler) Bucher. Irene married Willis Shaw on November 3, 1957 in Browning, IL. He preceded her in death on September 10, 2012.

Also preceding her are her grandson, Jeremiah Edwards, 3 brothers, Arthur, Beverly and Maynard Bucher, and 5 sisters, Ramona Mae Bucher, Virginia Maxine Cox, Leta Belle Bucher, Doris Baker and Bernice Wright.

Survivors include her son, Larry (and Pam) Shaw of Astoria, 2 daughters, Letha (and Joe) Stambaugh of Astoria and Lila Edwards of Rushville, 3 grandchildren, Zeb Shaw, Jennifer (and Aaron) Hickle and Jamie (and Brad Craven) Edwards, 5 great-grandchildren, Madison Girard, Maxwell Hickle, Stevie Hickle, Ace Craven and Makenzi Craven, sister, Nedra Bollinger of Browning, IL, brother, Dayle (and Patricia) Bucher of Bedford, IA, sister-in-law, Maxine Bucher of Astoria, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Astoria High School, she worked for a cleaning service in Havana before marrying and becoming a homemaker.

She was a member of the Woodland Church of the Brethren in Astoria. She enjoyed playing the piano, studying the bible, gardening, butterflies, and entertaining her grandchildren. She was also well known for her spaghetti and large cinnamon rolls with lots of frosting.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 in the Woodland Cemetery in Astoria. Pastor Lisa Fike will be officiating. Memorials may be made to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.

My sincere sympathies to her children and grandchildren and remaining family members, Always hard to loose a loved one, but this time of year makes it harder. Don't be sad because you've lost them, be happy that you had them to make memories with that will last your lifetime, take comfort in those memories and remember that she loved each of you.

Dear Larry, Letha and Lila. I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I had forgotten about her cinnamon rolls until I read the obituary. Those things were delicious! Irene was a good woman and I know heaven bonus when Christ received her in heaven. Think of our childhood fun frequently. May God bless each of you and your families.
