Henry J. Umphryes

January 11th, 1959 – February 12th, 2021

Henry J. Umphryes, 62, of Vermont, IL, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021 in Astoria, IL. He was born on January 11, 1959 in Rushville, IL, the son of Orval and Imogene (Spring) Umphryes.

Survivors include his 6 sisters, Lona Jo (and Bill) Wagner of Bellville, IL, Rosie (and Gary) Wece of Murphysboro, IL, Susan Jackson of Vermont, Nancy Hayes of Vermont, Betsy Umphryes of Centralia, IL and Donna Raudabaugh of Vermont, 2 brothers, Richard Umphryes of Caseyville, IL and Jon Umphryes of Vermont, and special friends, Chris (and Kelly) Heitz, Ryan (and Ashlie) Heitz, Michael (and Abbie) Heitz, Rick (and Donalene) Harris, and Glenn (and Rita) Wilcoxen.

He is preceded by his sister, Patsy Springs, and 3 brothers, Orval, Jr., George, and Neil Umphryes.

Henry was a farm hand on and off for 35 years at Heitz Farms.

He was an excellent mushroom hunter. He enjoyed trimming trees and ice fishing. Henry loved to go coon hunting and fishing, especially when he could take a youngster along. He was Sequoia Drive’s #1 fan as he never missed a show and would travel anywhere to watch the band play.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. A visitation will take place 5 to 7 pm before the service on Thursday. Interment will be in Vermont Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Vermont Memorial Ballpark.
