Betty J. Lawver

June 26th, 1929 – March 18th, 2021

Betty June Lawver, age 91 of Astoria, Illinois, passed away at 3:50 am Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Graham Hospital in Canton, Illinois. She was born on June 26, 1929 in Bluff City, Illinois, the daughter of William Jennings "W.J." and Inez Mae (Stambaugh) Palmer. Betty married Dwayne D. "Boon" Lawver on September 3, 1953 in Astoria. He preceded her in death on February 22, 2013.

She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Russell and Robert Palmer.

Betty is survived by her son, James Lawver of Peoria, Illinois, her daughter, Carol (and Zach) Schumm of Trophy Club, TX, four grandchildren; Mandy (and Jon) Greathouse, Lucas (and Jennifer) Lawver, Bailey Schumm and Madison Schumm, and three great-grandchildren, April Greathouse, Sebastian Lawver and Lizbeth Lawver.

Betty was a cook at the Astoria Community Schools' for 18 years.

She loved to crochet, play games and cards.

Betty was a member of Grace Bible Church in Astoria.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, Illinois. Pastor Ben Murray will officiate. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the services. Social distancing and mask are required. Memorials may be made in Betty's memory to the Grace Bible Church. Interment will be in the South Fulton Cemetery in Astoria, Illinois.

I myself learned to joke with people in church especially with Boon and Betty.
