Garry E. Behymer

July 16th, 1950 – June 5th, 2021

Garry E. Behymer, 70, of Lewistown, IL, passed away at 4:26 pm on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on July 16, 1950 in Beardstown, IL, the son of Betty Lou (Batterton) Behymer. He married Joyce Schisler on July 3, 1970 in Rushville, IL. He later married Joyce Lockard Turner on September 25, 1998 in Gatlinburg, TN. She survives.

Survivors also include his son, Jeff (and Tracey) Behymer of Browning, IL, his daughter, Tracy (and Tim) Wildermuth of Coulterville, IL, 3 step-daughters; Jody (and Steve) Young of Macomb, IL, Kelly (and Eric) Dettmer of Chanhassen, MN and Deanna (and John) Chambliss of Panama City Beach, FL, 9 grandchildren, Brock Bollinger, Brooke (and Austin) Fosdyck, Skyler Burgard, Tyler (and Caitie Wisniewski) Wildermuth, Taylor Wildermuth, Alaina Dettmer, Kaylee Dettmer, Brandon Evens and Kristen Evans, 3 great-grandchildren, Hailey Bollinger, Grady Fosdyck and Nolan Fosdyck, and brother, Bill (and Mona) Batterton of Astoria, IL.

He is preceded by his parents, Marshall and Betty Lou McLaren and grandparents, Ethel and Claude Batterton, who raised him.

Garry worked at AMAX Coal Company in Astoria and Arch Minerals in Southern Illinois for 23 years. He went on to be a Truck driver for OFR and retired from Clean Harbors Environmental.

He was a member of Twin States Pulling Association and Illinois Farm Pullers Association. He enjoyed farming, tractor pulls and restoring tractors. He loved horses and horse riding, John Deere Tractors and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 am on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Shane Smith will be officiating. A visitation will take place from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Summum Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in Peoria, IL.
