Lois E. Gorsage

July 30th, 1932 – January 23rd, 2022

Lois Evelyn Gorsage, age 89 of Lewistown, Illinois, passed away at 5:00 am on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Clayberg Nursing Center in Cuba, Illinois. She was born on July 30, 1932 in Canton, Illinois, the daughter of Harold and Nelda Jo (Smith) Burgard. She married Lawrence Coleman in 1954 in Lewistown. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1968. She later married Donald Gorsage on June 13, 1972 in Lewistown. He also preceded her in death on February 16, 2000.

Lois was also preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Patrick Coleman and Larry Ray Saylor and three brothers, Robert, Lanny and John Burgard.

She is survived by three sons, Terry (and Elizabeth) Coleman of Eureka, Missouri, Donald (and Michelle) Gorsage, Jr. of Canton, Illinois and Robert Gorsage of Lewistown, Illinois, one daughter Patti (and Aaron) Oest of Lewistown, Illinois, ten grandchildren; Ryan Coleman, Emily (and TJ) Branson, Melissa (and Justin) Williams, Sarah (and Larry) Clark, Kelly (and Ed) Merrell, Joshua (and Casidy) West, Justin Gorsage, Michael Pascal, Caitlin (and Detrik Hendee) Thrasher, and Jaci Oest, 20 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Luann Davis of London Mills, Illinois and Rebecca (and Don) Heller of Table Grove, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lois graduated from VIT High School in 1950 where she was Homecoming Queen her senior year. She then graduated from Western Illinois University in 1954 with a degree in teaching Home Economics. She began her teaching career at VIT teaching kindergarten. She them taught Home Ec at Astoria High School for 9 years before going to Lewistown High School and teaching Home Ec from which she retired.

She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lewistown and the Ipava American Legion Auxiliary.

Lois enjoyed needlework and sewing, making many quilts. She loved to sew, cook and garden, both flowers and vegetables. She collected doll houses and doll furniture and loved to play Bingo.

Services will be held on Friday, January 28th at 11:00 am at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, Illinois. Pastor Kevin Kessler will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 27th from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown. Memorials may be made to the Lewistown Rescue Squad or St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lewistown.
