Barbara Joan "Jo" Easley

November 22nd, 1940 – February 24th, 2022

Barbara J. “Jo” Easley, 81, of Ipava, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded with loved ones by her side at 9:04 am on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at her home. She was born on November 22, 1940 in Marietta, IL, the daughter of Lyle and Frances (Gilmore) Cramblet. Jo married Forrest Eugene “Gene” Easley on August 2, 1958 in Vermont, IL. Gene preceded Jo in death on April 19, 2018.

Also preceding her in death are her parents and 2 sisters, Shirley Hart and Beverly Plotts.

Surviving are her 3 sons, Monte (and Penny) Easley of Ipava, Kevin (and Marcy) Easley of Ipava, and Kelly (and Leslie) Easley of Timewell, IL, 2 God-daughters, Amanda (and David) Grove of Macomb, IL and Andrea Sears of Ipava, 12 grandchildren, Atrista (and Ivan) Massey, Andrew (and Abigail) Easley, Kaneessa (and Dustin) Stambaugh, Kelsi (and Justin) Dupoy, Laci (and Lance Kelley) Easley, Terra (and Matt) Crum, Haylie Easley, Holden Easley, Jamee Taylor, Caitlyn Grove, Abigail Grove, and Tucker Sears, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Jo started her daycare in 1977 with Heidi Baderttogan. She ran this daycare in Ipava for 45 years and cared for well over 200 children, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Because she cared for so many children and multiple generations of families in a small town, Jo has become known and loved by many as Ipava’s “town mom”. Jo went above beyond for the kids, providing plenty of meals, clean laundry and open doors at anytime of day.

Jo was a member of the Ipava Berean Christian Church, where she and her husband Gene taught Sunday School for several years. They also helped with the local Cub Scouts.

Because of Jo and Gene’s involvement in the community, they were honored as Grand Marshalls at the 2011 Camp Ellis Days parade in Ipava.

Jo loved to roller skate and square dance with Gene and her family.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at the Ipava Berean Chirstian Church. A visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Ipava Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ipava Berean Christian Church or a future VIT Scholarship in memory of Gene and Jo Easley.

Jo was a wonderful woman. She always had a smile on her face. My sincerest condolences to the family. She sat with children to any hour of the night. Jared got on the school bus for the first time at Jo and Genes home. Words can not expresss the love and kindness in her heart. It will never be the same. So many parents depended on Jo and she watched out for all of the children and made sure that no one was bullied by anyone.
