Marian F. Carithers

March 4th, 1934 – April 2nd, 2022

Marian F. Carithers, age 88 of Vermont, Illinois, passed away at 8:15 am on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Macomb Post Acute Care Center in Macomb, Illinois. She was born on March 4, 1934 in Schuyler County, Illinois, the daughter of Roscoe and Frances (Kinne) Derry. She was first married to George E. Johnson. She later married Cay Carithers.

She was preceded in death by three brothers; Franklin Derry, Marvin Derry and Gerald Derry and four sisters; Betty Derry, Patsy Derry, Phyllis Waugh and Judy Parks.

Marian is survived by two daughters, Karen Frederick of Vermont, Illinois and Georgia (and Curt) Richmond of Independence, Oregon, one son C.B. (and Christina) Carithers of Corinth, Mississippi, five grandchildren; Chad (and Ashley) Frederick, Jason (and Stephanie) Richmond, Airion Carithers, Cheyanne Carithers, and Keisha Carithers, nine great-grandchildren; Ethan, Gabriel and Christian Frederick, Sam and Henry Richmond, and Quenton, Castiel, Autumn and Dominic Carithers, two sisters, Evelyn Lacey of Junction City, Kansas and Joyce (and Doug) Wright of Tucson, Arizona and her brother Eldon Derry of Industry, Illinois.

Marian was a cook for the VIT School District in Table Grove, Illinois for years. She also worked at Webster Industries in Macomb, Illinois and for Lutheran Social Services in Home Healthcare.

She attended the Astoria Christian Church. She enjoyed playing Bing and Bunco, doing puzzles, and gardening. She lived a quiet life.

Services will be held at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2022. Pastor Gary Sheets will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will be in the Phillips Cemetery in rural Schuyler County. Memorials may be made in Marian’s memory to the Vermont Fire and Rescue Squad.
