Lois C. Stambaugh

December 7th, 1935 – April 20th, 2022

Lois C. Stambaugh, 86 of Browning, Illinois, passed away at 11:20 am on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at The Elms in Macomb, Illinois. She was born on December 7, 1935 in Browning, the daughter of Amos Dale and Florence Catherine (Dodds) Walton. Lois married the love of her life, Leon D. Stambaugh on May 30, 1953 in Rushville, Illinois. Together, they built a life that was centered on three F’s: Family, Faith and Farming, in that order. Leon preceded Lois in death on December 2, 2013.

She is survived by her daughter, Cathy (and Stanley) Butler of Peoria, Illinois, her son Kevin (and Linda) Stambaugh of Rushville, Illinois, daughter-in-law Linda Stambaugh of Astoria, Illinois, seven grandchildren; Shannon (and Scott) Adkins, Chad (and Melissa) Stambaugh, Travis (and Lucia) Stambaugh, Dustin (and Sarah) Stambaugh, Brian (and Carlos Vale) Butler, Christopher (and Joseph Franco) Butler and Clayton (and Brittany) Stambaugh, two step-grandchildren, Heath (and Heily Windsor) Vandeventer and Erica Kleinlein, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents and one son Stanley D. Stambaugh.

Lois maximized each day, raising her children to understand the importance of hard work while managing the farming operations alongside Leon. When others were retiring, she started working at Knapp Jewelry Store in Rushville and her beautiful smile helped make memories for special moments in the lives of others. She was an only child whose goal was to have a large family. She was classy and gracious and her heart expanded as her family expanded, making each grandchild feel special. In her final chapter of life, she loved to say she was “a little spoiled”.

She was a faithful member of the Browning Church Of Christ that her family founded generations before.

The family wants to thank her caregivers at her home as well as at The Elms for their heartfelt love.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, Illinois. Pastor John Ruppel will officiate. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 23rd from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Browning Cemetery. Memorials in Lois’ memory may be made to the Browning Church Of Christ or the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.

Sending my heartfelt sympathy is Lois’s passing. She fought a tough battle as a Warrior of Jesus. Lois would take me to church in Browning times when I spent weekends with my sister Jane and Stanley.
Our Peace is found in her steadfast faith in Jesus. She now walks streets of gold

I loved the Walton family and went through high school with Lois. Later I became acquainted with Leon and loved him also. I'm sure He's waiting happily to welcome her home and she's just as happy to be with him again. My deepest sympathy to her family. You are in my prayers.
