Mary Louise Butler

July 21st, 1931 – June 26th, 2022

Mary Louise Butler age 90 of Astoria, IL passed away on Sunday June 26, 2022 at 2:50 pm at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria, IL. She was born July 21, 1931 in Astoria, the daughter of Murray and Rose Liebig Lybarger. She married Robert L. Butler on October 1, 1950 in Astoria, IL. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2000.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Lila Burdett.

She is survived by two her sons, Steven R. (Pamela) Butler of Astoria, Stanley L. (Cathy) Butler of Peoria, IL, four grandchildren Meghan (Matt) Allen of Normal, IL, Brian (Carlos Butler-Vale) Butler of Glenview, IL, Nicholas (Ande) Butler of Bailey, CO, and Christopher (Joseph Franco) Butler of Chicago, IL, three great-grandchildren, Chase and Cade Allen and Sofia Butler-Vale, sister Phyllis (Jack) Bloomfield, Monument
CO.

For 30 years of her 41 year career she worked at the Farmers State Bank of Astoria. She took great pride in her work and serving customers in the community. She was a member of the Astoria United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She was an avid bowler for many years throughout leagues in the county and also loved riding her bicycle.

Mary was a dedicated, strong, and loyal daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. No matter the scenario, no matter the game, Mary played to win and instilled this in her family. She shared her opinion freely, whether with a family member, co-worker, referee, or how one of her legendary apple pies turned out. Mary worked hard and saved hard her whole life. She was proud of a job well done. She raised her boys to do the same and ensured they were in church with her every Sunday. Mary had many expressions, but her beautiful red lips smiled the biggest and her eyes shined the brightest when talking of her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary often made up her own words or accidently altered the meaning, leading to the most confusing, hysterical, and memorable stories that often provided the greatest laughs and greatest lessons. Through thick and thin, to the very end, she was a die-hard Cubs fan. Her first heavenly act was helping
her beloved Cubbies take a win over “those darn Cardinals” on her dying day.

A visitation will be held Wednesday June 29, 2022 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria from 5-7 pm. A funeral service will be held Thursday June 30, 2022 at 10 am at the Astoria United Methodist Church with interment at the Astoria Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Astoria United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital Midwest Affiliate. To donate online, please go to stjude.org/donate and check the box labeled "Dedicate my Donation".
