Catharine J. Simpson

January 30th, 1935 – September 28th, 2022

Catharine Jane Simpson, age 87 of Cuba, Illinois, formerly of Astoria, Illinois, passed away at 11:15 am Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Clayberg Fulton County Nursing Center, Cuba, Illinois. She was born on January 30, 1935 in Boylston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Abshire) Friend. Cathy married Harold Eugene Simpson on June 20, 1953 in Boylston. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2007.

She was also preceded in death by her brother Ron Friend.

Cathy is survived by her daughter, Sherry (and Steve) Hoerr-Bradley of Morton, Illinois, Mike (and Gina) Simpson of Lewistown, Illinois and three grandchildren; Ian Simpson, Chance (and Ashley) Simpson and Brittany Hoerr.

She was a teller for the Astoria Savings and Loan for many years until her retirement. She also assisted in the management of the Astoria South Fulton Senior Center in Astoria. She loved people and had great compassion for those in need.

Cathy loved her family deeply, enjoying her grandchildren's activities. She also loved her beloved cat, CC.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9th at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, Illinois. Pastor Brian Ebbert will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be given to the Astoria South Fulton Senior Center or the Fulton County Animal Shelter.

Inurnment will take place in the Good Hope Cemetery in rural Rushville, Illinois at a later date.
