Michael E. Thomas

October 29th, 1952 – November 16th, 2022

Michael E. Thomas, 70, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 3:10 am on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at his son’s home in East Peoria, IL. Mike was born on October 29, 1952 in Canton, IL, the son of Tommy and Betty Lou (Orwig) Thomas.

Surviving are his 2 children, Jonathan (and Lindsey) Thomas of East Peoria, IL, and Jackie (and Joe) Surratt of Avondale, CO, 2 grandchildren, Joey Surratt and Aurora Thomas, 4 brothers, Steven Thomas of Beardstown, IL, Stanley Thomas of Indiana, Phillip Thomas of Astoria, IL, and David Thomas of Vermont, and his sister, Christina Morris of Astoria. Mike is also survived by Matt Morgan who was like a son to him.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Norman Thomas and Dean Thomas.

Mike worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for several years.

Mike was a U.S. Army Veteran and was stationed in Germany while he was in the service.

He was a member of the Shriners and the Masonic Lodge in Beardstown. Mike loved his grandkids and was very involved with them. He loved to hunt. Mike also loved to commercial fish and having fish fry’s. He was always willing to help out wherever he could.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 in the Woodland Cemetery in Astoria. Mike Shirley will be officiating. A military service will be provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25. A visitation will take place from 12 to 1 pm on Tuesday, November 22 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
