Carl W. "Bill" Burnham

November 4th, 1951 – December 28th, 2022

Carl William “Bill” Burnham, age 71 of Canton, Illinois, passed away at 1:03 pm on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at his home. He was born on November 4, 1951 in Canton, the son of Carl H. and Loretta A. (Davis) Burnham. He married Annie Mitchell on December 13, 2014 in Astoria, Illinois. She survives.

He is also survived by his step-son Mylo (and Amanda) Mitchell of Peoria, Illinois, his step-daughter Cheyenne Mitchell of Ohio, 7 grandchildren; Trey, Hannah, Jasimine, Braden, CJ, Allie, and Marley, 3 great-grandchildren; Avyanna, Graceson and Harmony, 2 brothers, David (and Jody) Burnham of Bryant, Illinois and Randy Burnham of St. David, Illinois, his mother-in-law Jeannine Shanks of Astoria, Illinois, 2 nieces, Allynne (and Ken) Baumlin of Arizona and Cecily (and Blaze) Pearson of Bryant, Illinois and his long time neighbor and good friend Brian Henderson of Canton, Illinois.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, step-daughter Georgia Duckwiler, and his father-in-law Ernie Shanks.

He was a proud firefighter for the City of Canton for 29 years. He also was a photographer for 35 years, working for the Canton Daily Ledger for 10 years.

Bill enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, and photography.

He was a Ham Radio operator most of his life and was involved with the Fulton County Playhouse for many years.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 31st at 11:00 am at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Kevin Kessler will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Astoria. Memorials may be made to the Canton Fire Department.

Bill Burnham was hired by Canton Fire Department August 13, 1973 and retired December 31, 2001. He will be greatly missed.

Bill’s technical contributions to live theatre were way ahead of their time. I had the pleasure of working with Bill at the Fulton County Playhouse and The Public Theatre in Peoria. Bill was a great guy. He and I hired on the fire department at almost the same time. As It turns out I think I worked more with him than anyone else. The thing I most remember about Bill was that he did not talk ill of anyone. I will always have good memories of Bill.
