Sherry R. Sorrells

October 29th, 1947 – February 4th, 2023

Sherry R. Sorrells, 75, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 8:22 am on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Unity Point Methodist in Peoria, IL. She was born on Wednesday, October 29, 1947 in Baldwin City, KS, the daughter of Ethan and Shirley (Dean) Weld. Sherry married Donald Sorrells on August 19, 1966 in Vermont, IL. Donald preceded her in death on August 9, 2005.

Also preceeding Sherry in death is her son, Joseph Sorrells and parents.

She is survived by her 3 children, Teresa Sorrells of Astoria, Clinton (and Karen) Sorrells of Ipava, IL, and Amy (and Mike) Walters of Ipava, 8 grandchidlren, Cole (and Ginelle) Hollenback, Tyler (and Sarah) Hollenback, Jonathan Reece (and Christall) Hollenback, Kelsey (and Tyler) Bick, Parker Sorrells, Morgan Lascelles, Kianna Bowers and Chris (and Kara) Walker, 11 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Candace (and Mark) Wenzell of Hilton Head Island, SC, Lauri (and Richard) Haskins of Macomb, IL, and Ramona (and Tony) Tevis, 2 brothers, John (and Debbie) Weld of Tennessee and Mark (and Vicki) Weld of Amarillo, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sherry was a registered nurse. She worked at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb and Heartland Healthcare in Canton, IL.

She was long time member of PEO Chapter C Sisterhood and the National Audubon Society. Sherry loved nature walks, finding rocks, bird watching, watching deer in the fields and around her house, and reading magazines anywhere she was at. Sitting on the front porch in the sun listening to nature was her peaceful time. She also loved spending time with her family.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or the National Audubon Society and can be sent to Shawgo Memorial Home, PO Box 525, Astoria, IL 61501.
