Margaet E. Spencer

March 14th, 1926 – March 24th, 2023

Margaret E. Spencer, 97, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 6:45 pm on Friday, March 24, 2023 at her home. She was born on Sunday, March 14, 1926 in Beardstown, IL, the daughter of John and Nellie (Scherrer) Smith. Margaret married Harold Spencer on March 24, 1946 in Yorktown, VA. Harold preceded Margaret in death on January 8, 2014.

Also preceding her in death is her son, Reverend Harold Spencer Jr., 2 brothers, Charles and Jack Smith, and her sister, Pat Smith.

She is survived by 6 children, Robert (and Peggy) Spencer of Astoria, Gailen (and Rhonda) Spencer of Astoria, Ronnie (and Jo Ellen) Spencer of Beardstown, David (and Brenda) Spencer of Astoria, Christine (and Moe) Sisson of Zeeland, ND, and John (and Heather) Spencer of Astoria, her daughter-in-law Alice Spencer of Luray, Virginia, 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret worked in the Deli Department at IGA in Lewistown.

She was a member of the Summum Christian Church and later attended the Bader Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and crotcheting. She loved her flowers, family and being a stay at home mom.

A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 in the Astoria Cemetery in Astoria. Pastor Matt Haberman will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Memorials may be made to the Summum Christian Church or the Bader Christian Church.
