Edward L. Wickert

June 6th, 1959 – March 28th, 2023

Edward Lee Wickert, 63 of Ipava, Illinois, passed away at Graham Hospital in Canton, Illinois on March 28, 2023 with his family by his side. He was born on June 6, 1959 in Havana, Illinois, the son of Tommy and Betty (Bishop) Wickert of Ipava. Ed married Pamela (Collier) Mayall on October 29, 1983. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Kyle (and Tammy Caraker) Wickert of Vienna, Illinois and Neal (and Jessa) Wickert of Ipava, two step-daughters, Krissa (and Dave) Nystrom of Tremont, Illinois and Niki (and Matt) Pataky of Washington, Missouri, his grandchildren Boden Wickert, Mackenzie and Will Pataky, Samantha and Autumn Kendrick, step-grandchildren Myles and Aleah Nystrom, two close sisters, Diana (and Terry) Arnett of Table Grove, Illinois and Sue (and Randy) Farr of Ipava, one sister-in-law Bonnie (and Bill) Poli of Peachtree City, Georgia, brother-in-law George (and Michelle) Collier of Pearland, Texas and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Phil Poli and his beloved dog Cooper.

Ed was a graduate of VIT High School in Table Grove, Illinois. After graduation, he worked for the AMAX Coal Company for nine years before going into grain and livestock farming full time.

He served on the Schuyler-Brown FS Board and later retired as the President of Fulton FS Board, serving for over 40 years. He was a member of the Ipava United Presbyterian Church in Ipava.

Ed was a long time farmer who loved nothing more than taking his dog for a ride around the farm, stopping for a visit with friends in his old blue pickup. He was a WWII history buff, which was appropriate, being born on June 6th. He loved running his bulldozer, watching old TV series, especially Gunsmoke, and treating Pam with a weekend supper out, which usually ended at the nearest Mexican restaurant. Ed’s greatest pride was in his children and grandchildren; making his life’s goal to improve and pass down the farm first settled by the Wickert family in 1877. He had a strong faith in God, whom he now resides with.

Services will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at 3:00 pm at the Ipava United Presbyterian Church in Ipava. Pastor Kevin Kessler will officiate. Visitation will take place from 1-3 pm prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will take place in the Ipava Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ipava Fire and Rescue Squad or the Ipava United Presbyterian Church.

Shawgo Memorial Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
