Dale P. Martin

September 27th, 1938 – June 12th, 2023

Dale Phillip Martin, 84, of Beardstown, IL, formerly of Athens, IL, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023 at Heritage Health in Beardstown, IL. He was born on September 27, 1938 in Barry, IL, the son of Arthur and Mary (Dehart) Martin. He married Judith Kay Hunsley on April 22, 1993. She preceded him in death on January 23, 2004.

Dale was also preceded by his parents, two brothers, Arthur Martin Jr. and Earl Walter Martin, 2 sisters, Margaret Handrich and Thelma Martin, and one step-son, Brent Hunsley.

Surviving is his son, Daniel Martin of West Liberty, IA, one daughter, Debra (and Jimmy) Derry of Astoria, IL, one step-daughter, Lisa (and Jeff) Bealmear of Olney, IL, one step-son, Greg (and Caroline) Hunsley of Flowery Branch, GA, five grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, one brother Robert Martin of Peoria, IL, and three sisters, Nellie Martin of Quincy, Mary Lou Venvertloh, both of Quincy,IL, and Sally Guswell of Highland, IL.

Dale graduated from Payson/Seymour High School in 1956 and WIU in 1960. He briefly taught school in White Hall, IL, and then worked at the ASC office in Lewistown, IL before opening an Allis Chalmers dealership, also in Lewistown. He also worked at Greenview Ag and then for the Sate of Illinois. He retired from Farmers Mutual Insurance.

Dale enjoyed fishing with his buddies in Wisconsin and spending time in Arizona and Mexico.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at the Sherman United Methodist Church in Sherman, IL at 11 am on Saturday, June 24, 2023. Pastor Jon Carrell and Pastor Jeff Bealmear will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 9 to 11 am before the service at the church. Memorials maybe made to the Sherman United Methodist Church.

Debbie, Dan and family, I am so sorry to hear of Dale's passing. I have many good memories of time spent on your farm when Jim helped out with the hay bailing. I remember sitting in your living room watching Neal Armstrong walk on the moon. My prayers are with you all.
