Joseph L. Hayes

June 27th, 1977 – February 3rd, 2024

Joseph L. Hayes, 46, of Rushville, IL, formerly of Astoria, IL, passed away at 4:34 pm on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. He was born on June 27, 1977 in Macomb, IL, the son of Terry and Margie (Lutz) Hayes.

He is survived by four sons; Chris Hayes of Vermont, IL, Brad Hayes of Astoria, Jake Hayes of Vermont, and Dylan Hayes of Vermont, one daughter; Kayssie Hayes of Vermont, two brothers; Brian (and Crystal) Hayes of Astoria and Tony (and Shantell) Hayes of Vermont, one sister; Patricia Hayes of Rushville, grandmother, Geraldine Hayes of Macomb, IL, and step-sister, Katy Walters of Astoria.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother; Greg Hayes, grandfather, Charles Hayes, grandparents; Ethel and Toler Lutz, and step-mother, Jeanette Walters.

Joe was both an over the road truck driver and drove for area farmers. He worked for Freedom Seed House, Astoria Trucking, Black Gold Cattle Company, Heitz Farms, Ratcliff Farms, Dean Farms and Astoria Farms.

He enjoyed reading fictional law books, especially John Grisham books.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Gary Sheets will be officiating. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
